Default Digidesign question

I've been thinking of starting a "mini" studio for myself but I really don't know where to start. I'm an artist and I work with producers that live in different states. They all use digidesign. I don't I think I need the full digidesign package that they use because my only concern is to be able to have them send me their music on a disc so I can work on my vocals from my house. I know I'll need a mac and a good mic (any suggestions). I think at the most I would only need to use 8 tracks for my vocals. Does anyone have any advice as to what digidesign product would be suit me?

P.S. I'm trying to save money, but not at the expense of quality.

Hi, an Imac would work great. Or if you are on a budget an emac would also work. Get more ram at least 512 mb or more total.

Mics are very subjective for just a demo a Shure 58 (cheap) would work, for quality AKG 414 TLll - you would not be disappointed

And a pair of headphones for tracking

What type of music you do? is it screaming rock or chillin lounge thing or what? Bear in mind that the M-Box while a great package prob. won't suit vocals for a full blown record, maybe you'd need separate pres and converters. Just a thought

oh and for the most bang for the buck buy a PC, Half the price with double the amount of plugin count.(hey, no flamewars, just trying to help the guy/girl).

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Yeah, this sounds like the perfect client to encourage to spec out the windows compatibility issues and then put the components together from scratch.
