Default VENUE HDx Recording Duration

hi VENUE gurus! i know this might have been posted before but i can't seem to find the thread here. need help from the gurus here. i remembered someone telling me that Pro Tools can only record only up to 4 hours per recording. this is mainly because of the Wave file size limitation, which is 4GB per file..but please correct me if i'm wrong.. i have two rigs, HD3 Accel TDM with Pro Tools HD 8 on Mac OS X 10.6.8 and the other rig with HD3 Accel TDM Pro Tools HD 10 on Mac OS X 10.7.5. does the PTHD10 on Mac OS X 10.7.5 allows recording more than 4GB since it's on 64-bit? my gig is next week and the duration of the recording is between 6 to 8 hours!

I can't answer definitively but I can tell you I've done over 6 hours with Reaper without a problem. Hopefully someone can answer as it relates to PT, but I'd also consider looking for a spot or two in that time frame where you can stop and begin again, even if only for a moment.

You could daisy chain … but that of course would require 2 recording systems off a split.

You are mixing some stuff up :)
under windows and a HDD that is formatted with Fat32, your max file size was limited to 2 GB. 64Bit and the 4GB was the limit of RAM you could use with a 32Bit operating system. I never heard of a limitation specific to a file format regarding maximum size... So far my two cents ;-)

I'm actually wondering if this is the right subforum. it's not really live related. maybe the pro tools guys are more experienced with that
