after seeing the compat. docs, i was prompted to write this post to get an idea of how the testing was going. ball-park time frame, etc. thanks for at least responding though.
something like: "Hey Felix, great to hear from you! The testing is coming along now. Maybe another 3 weeks. Thanks for your concern, Digidesign." That's the kind of response Colin of McDSP would give me. McDSP will always be my prefered pluggin choice. Great people. (Great plugs, too.)
Actually Digi. usually has been fine. I guess they're all tied up with the flood of 5.1 bugs. No problem, i'm sure it'll all be fine.

Don't know a thing about your specific question, but this thought occurs to me...

If you're still on PT III (which is perfectly cool if it has the features you need), why do you want to upgrade your computer? It seems that at some point, the computer and DIGI cards are perfectly matched (in this case, somewhere at or below the Mac 9600 level), and going beyond that platform will not really gain you any performance with regards to ProTools. It seems that the time to upgrade your computer would be when you are ready to upgrade your other hardware (and not just DIGI cards; you'll need new MIDI interfaces, USB peripherals, faster hard drives, etc, etc...)

I can see why DIGI would not want to bother with qualifying new platforms with old hardware. There are bigger fish to fry...

i'm mainly interested in the faster cpu power for running other apps simultaneously (software synth., spectrafoo, etc.)
also, MORE SLOTS. so i don't have to worry about an expensive chasis on an already shakey set-up. i can add another farm card easily!
the advantages for other things, like internet and cd burning, plus the addtion of usb and firewire w/o using pci slots, plus dual monitors on one pci card. may advantages not strictly related to improving PTIII performance, but greatly improving "expandabilities" and non-PTIII applications. this could make things much better until i'm able to get a better TDM system. maybe Digi. has a more reasonable TDM solution around the corner. anyways, i know they have bigger fish. i'm not even in the same pond anymore.
