My Dream Console
Has anyone checked out the Yamaha DM2000? It's the Ferarri of digital consoles. As soon as some funding shows up, I'm getting it, period

Re: My Dream Console
That's a whole lot of funding! Do you feel you need that MUCH console? When an 02R96 or the new 01V96 might be enough? They are (as is the DM1000) both based on the DM2000 technology. Especially the interface.

Re: My Dream Console
What's the advantage to having a console with the 001?
Is it just a matter of preference working with actual faders? |

Re: My Dream Console
It sure is for me.
Besides, did you know that aside from the input controls in the DAE Setups, and the Channel 1 and 2 rotary vol. pots, the software faders in 001's have nothing to do with input volume? Nothing! They are only controlling internal mix/monitor levels. All those little PT faders have nothing to do with increasing or decreasing your input into the 001! |

As long as the mixers quality is clean and high enough to avoid signal losses it could mean a nice solution. The next advantage could be a bunch of mic inputs with good converters lightpiped into the Digi when you need to hook up several mics e.g. for recording drums. Someone correct me if I was wrong, please. Lalaman |

Re: My Dream Console
My choice for a console comes from the desire to get the best of both worlds. Working with Protools is excellent, but there also is a wealth of advantages with working with a console of the caliber of the DM2000. Plus the added advantage of routing your plugins from Protools to any desired track on the console and back to Protools. The mic pre's, the class of effects, compression, eq, etc. There just some much one can accomplish from using a combimnation of both.
This setup is not for a small project studio, but for a large commercial high class studio. There are producers who would only use Protools for editing and mix on a regular console. The DM2000 provides for an exceptional combination. |

Re: My Dream Console
Sam Ash had that console listed at around $9K. Isn't that a little out of the digi 001's league?

Re: My Dream Console
It actually sells for $16k or more depending on options. It may be out of 001 league for now, but my hope goes beyond 001. Hopefully soon I'll have HD and then DM2000.

Re: My Dream Console
ok let's all share our dreams.
Buying a digital board to work with Digi001 is a weird choice. But instead I would buy a PT HD. For my dream setup: HD3 something like 32 ins, 48 outs. A SSL 4056G+, or a Neve VR60. Tons of outboards like Urei, GML, Lexicon 960L, Manley. ok lets get back to reality. |
