Ha, I'm trying to find the answer on these forums. I want to know what position I should have the volume control on the Mbox Mini in order to get unity gain and assure myself that the MBox is not adding to my signal. I kind of wish it clicked. I believe having the volume knob pointing at the Mbox mini logo is the position for unity gain but I have not confirmed that.

As an audio pro for 30+ years, I honestly have to ask why. Use the meters in the session and set your GAIN staging with some common sense(like GAIN all the way down when using an external preamp via the line input), and all will be fine. For those new to all this, don't run an external preamp into the XLR inputs on any Avid interface(that would run a preamp thru another preamp).

If you take a look at the signal path chart on page 8 in the Mbox Technology Guide,
you will se that the signal will always go through the Mbox Mini preamp even when connected to the line input.

http://www.avid.com/static/resources...logy_Guide.pdf

Mbox Pro however (se page 6) completely bypasses the preamp on the line inputs.

Just turn the level pot all the way down (to the left) to minimise gain from the mbox preamp when using an external preamp.

You also need to pull out the knob to engauge the pad and turn to the left if your working with -10db consumer gear into the mbox mini
