Ktuulu, thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, that's not going to work for me. Complete uninstall, reinstall didn't fix the issue. I'm calling them first thing!!

I should also add that if you don't get the 'ilok swap' trick on the first try don't give up. If you don't get the timing right on the first try, you'll have to do a full reboot (major pain in the ass). You'll know you've got it when after you insert the ilok, you hear the windows recognition sound, then the splash screen will appear.

I did full reinstalls, driver installs etc. The only thing that worked was the ilok swap. It has something to do with PT not recognizing the ilok AT ALL until you force the entire system to recognize it as PT is booting up. Digi.. very disappointed this wasn't addressed in 9.0.2.

Let us know what you find.

FWIW - I just encountered an iLok2 total failure. The LED started flashing. No auths (or even the iLok) are recognized.

Unbelievable! For 10 years I've used up to 14 iLoks (original version) and only had ONE (1) failure do to getting smashed. Get a new iLok2 and it fails after 1 month.

Can't find much on the flashing LED failure on Gearslutz, etc. Investigating further and contacting iLok.....

To OP, you sure you got all the powersaving features turned off? (USB Hub, etc).

Ok, I have an update on this one. After speaking with the Avid tech on this, they first asked me to check the USB power management option in Windows. I had already made sure the two power management option were unchecked, so no changes there for me.

He seemed like he wasn't sure what would cause the issue. He had me select the option to run Pro Tools in Administrator mode - I politely told him I already run PT in admin mode (so my midi groove drag/drop works in my EZ Player plugin

He then had me remove the ilok, and reboot the system with the ilok removed. I went to open pro tools again (ilok out), and at the YES/No admin prompt, I inserted the ilok (similar to Kutuulu's recommendation - albeit with less haste). Pro Tools immediately began to boot up and load normally. I then closed the application, and reopened it - worked fine.

Now for the big test. I rebooted the PC and opened Pro Tools and it loaded fine. So fingers crossed this fixed the issue.

The tech said that other people have experienced this issue. What's important to note about my issue that may be different than Kutuulu's or others is that I got the iLok error IMMEDIATELY when accessing PT. I saw no PT splash screen or anything. Even the tech commented that folks normally see the splash screen and then get the error.

I'll keep you posted and let you know if this issue comes back.

That's interesting, thanks for the info. I'm glad you're making Digi aware of this. Similarly, if I don't use the swap trick, the ilok error appears before the splash screen. I have yet to try inserting the ilok during the run as admin confirmation dialogue, will give that ago. I've never been able to reboot the machine without pulling the ilok out first, however, so there might be different variable involved.

It's my first iLok, but I'm pretty sure it's the new smaller - alien looking one. It definitely is not key-shaped at all.
