That is much better. Also, with some neat new windows for quicker views that we use to have to access in the Renderer. They are now in ProTools edit window and colors! A lot of ease of use stuff in ATMOS in the renderer window for sure.

Not so nice
so, basically, it's more Post, Video, Film additions...
some Audio related features and Audio/ Mixing related bug fixes would be better

ATMOS audio has been picking up for awhile. (I'll reserve judgement on its worth but it has nonetheless)
No trade show highlights "bug fixes." It would be terrible PR. ((Hey, we've screwed this up but now we've fixed it!") So a preview is always about showing "new."

personally I'm bored ****less with dolby updates.. atmos etc.. changing colours... would be nice for them to come out with some features that are more focussed towards music.

- A friend of mine who uses Cubase was telling me the other day that you can actually choose to actually record through plugins, rather than simply monitor through. As in, commit live essentially, similar to UAD interfaces. I think this would be a fantastic feature to implement tbh.

- I'd also like to see them improve the ability to detect tempo etc, like you see with some other DAW's where you import a drum loop and then Pro Tools would then either automatically conform it to your session tempo, or ask if you want to change the session to match the loop.

- Related to the point above, it would be great to see them integrate with services like Splice etc better - Pro Tools always feels like an outsider. Using Splice in particular with Logic, is seamless. It's rather laborious with PT.

- I'd like to see them refine the HDX Hybrid Engine too, it very recording focussed, but I'd like to see more options to improve the mixing experience with it.

- Also, being a Windows user, it blows my mind that they haven't been bothered to sort out a solution to supporting 4K. Absolutely scandalous in all honesty, such a basic 'feature'.

Obviously none of this will happen :)

I use the dongle as well. I have a little hub that I use for my iLok and a couple charging cables. No issues with authorization.

There are many of those, but I can't remember all of them, such as midi improvements. I just only was able to see the Dolby stuff as I missed some of those and there were a lot I think that was not covered at the session I saw either. So much to see there.

Yeah, that was my thought as well BScout! Probably one reason I did not see that covered, plus this was probably just out of Alpha into Beta and no idea what all will be added in prior to the actual release in June. G

You can record and print through any plugin you want.

That's kind of what I was thinking as well. Input to an Aux, stack your plugins on that Aux, and route the Output of the Aux to an Audio Track to record onto.

I've used those Universal interfaces and was *steaming* mad when I realized that I couldn't ALSO record a dry DI guitar signal when using their Unison Amp Sims.

I'd love to see more music things implemented ASAP as well, but Pro Tools does have a bigger market share in the mixing/post markets than Cubase, Logic, DP, Studio One, etc. Those markets also tend to have real, physical, useful budgets (as opposed to the dicey nature of music creation) and ATMOS remixing is the current industry boondoggle that is keeping a lot of engineers working on the regular (sorry. not sorry). So yeah, Avid is going to work to maintain a lead in that area.

Pro Tools will analyze tempo and conform an imported loop to the session tempo. There are certain settings to do it correctly - I stick to doing it manually now, for control, so I don't recall the exact workflow. I've never seen it try to change the session tempo based on an imported loop, but that would be a disastrous occurrence for me most times. It's easy enough to analyze the loop, and then change the session tempo if you really want to. You can do the whole thing with Beat Detective, although that is sometimes like mailing a letter across the country for it to be delivered to the next town over. But it IS a Pro.... Tool. (*puns)

HDX (as it is) is probably never going back to having a mix focus. The hardware required is too expensive, and modern native CPU processing frankly blows it out of the water. I've used all of the systems since mid-90s, and the current implementation of the Hybrid Engine (with a powerful computer) is like a dream. Although I do wish that they could work harder to bring onboard some more Amp Sim devs (*ahem Neural DSP, Scuffham, IK Multimedia, Plugin Alliance) into the AAX-DSP fold, so I have some more tracking options.

and see my other note about recording through plugins. Totally doable.

True. My guess is that Cubase makes this signal flow easier to set up but it's not a function that's difficult to create in PT.
