Georgia, I appreciate your public display of satisfaction.

I am quite positive you are describing what is called "park on silence" on Wave Rider. Operated by the button labeled p.o.s. And the "park level" is where the fader goes when signal is below "silence level". Timing is adjusted by the "park / release" slider. But the time does not reach 30 secs.

Would this be helpful?

I picked up vocal rider cause it was on sale.. I knew I'd be disappointed, and I am. I thought it would help me which a crazy turn around job and it actually made things more complicated. Boo vocal rider.. and boo no PC wave rider.

Just to note here too, we now have the Windows version available in RTAS as well as AAX. (XP, Vista, 7)

Mac AAX version is also available.

We haven't sent out an update email yet. It will be later on today possibly.
But you can get the latest installer on our Facebook page:
LINK

Sorry if this is an inconvenience. If you don't use Facebook, and need the AAX installer immediately just send us an email at support (-at) quietart.co.nz

But the current RTAS version is identical to the AAX version anyway.

Tried it. Kinda cool.

How do you deal with:

1) louder sections. While a decent setting works overall, Loud section you basically have to clear out.

How do you set it so it doen't reduce louder sections?

2) Fade times. How do you set the release? If you have a noisey section, the tail of the automation between lines ramps down.

So you have to go in and manually adjust the automation.

Maybe its not possible. But it seems like alot of extra work f'ing around with the volume automation with these things.

We designed Wave Rider to have the flexibility over controlling the quieter passages of a signal, since this is where it is more subjective.
Therefore, by setting an output level that is closer to the louder sections of your source material and adjusting the ratio (looser) and silence threshold, you should get a good result while not attenuating too much. So, typically for most things -20 or -21 output level works well. I would be happy to look at your session if you'd like.

This is happening when you have the p.o.s switch on right? For general riding, you can leave this off. Fader will go flat from where it was left off during passages below silence threshold. If you do wish to have the park on silence on, you can adjust its release time with park/release slider.

When you get a hang of it, you'll find it actually takes a lot of work off your hands. And when you say these things I have to emphasize the fact that Wave Rider is one of its kind.

Thanks

Already bought it. I'll mess around with it a bit.

You know how production dialog is. If you don't have the same prod sound mixer, then things can be all over the place.

My show, hey shoot in Chicago for the exteriors and the PSM's crank the gain and limit the S out of it, so its crunchy and distorted sometimes.

Yes, I have the POS on. I'll try it off. Basically, I set my dialog levels at 0, and on a noisier scene, I hear the tail of the noise at the end of a line, so I have to go in and adjust the volume auto back to 0 so it doesn't sound like a compressor releasing it.

It does allow me to relax my compressor quiet a bit.

How do I send you a session? Contact you?
