If you have a perpetual license, don't let it go.

There really doesn't seem to be any kind of incentive to lose it as it will cost you more in the long run.

The annual 'fee" isn't that bad for Studio in comparison.

I agree. In fact, even if one no longer needs an existing perpetual license, I would hold on to it because it may become more valuable as time goes on when others decide they need one but can no longer buy one new. That is, unless Avid changes their transfer policy in the future to prevent transfers to others in hopes of forcing that last holdout into a subscription!

These are all subscriptions. If you need to change versions, just end one and start the other.

Parachutes do still exist.
Once you renew your PT|Carbon Perpetual Parachute Subscription it turns back into a 1-year Subscription. When that year is up and you don't renew the subscription, the parachute deploys again and turn back into a Perpetual Parachute License until/if you decide to renew your Perpetual Parachute Subscription.

I believe I know what your referring to back earlier this year. My understanding is the issues they are having has been sorted out. If one was having problems they were asked to submit a support ticket or if you still are having problems with the Perpetual Parachute License.

I would not be surprised to see perpetual licenses continue to be sold bundled with Avid hardware.

The new Avid Community manager has confirmed this in one of these threads. Current bundles with perpetual licenses will continue which appears to mean the Carbon+Studio bundle (Avid Carbon) and the HDX card+Ultimate bundle
(HDX Core Bundle)

…but as per the lengthy discussion in this thread, the Carbon bundle is only quasi-perpetual. You don’t have reinstatement fees if you lapse, but you have to pay subscription prices, not perpetual support prices. I don’t know if that’s true for the HDX / Ultimate bundle, but worth checking as Ultimate subs are a gobsmacking $999pa, vs Ultimate support plan of $399pa (still quite enough thank you).

For PT|Carbon the yearly Perpetual Parachute Subscription fee for the PT Studio License is $249 when and if you renew.
For HDX/HD Native the yearly Software Update + Support Plan is $399 a year for the Ultimate License if you don't let it lapse. If you let it lapse then the Get Current Updates + Support Plan is $749 for that 1st year and $399 each year thereafter if you don't let it lapse again.
