alternative to BlackMagic PCI card for video to HDMI?
Hi all
I have an HDX-2 system in a 12 core, last gen Mac Pro Tower NOT the trashcan. I work in ProTools HD-10 I do some film work, and love how well the $200 BlackMagic PCI card works for me to get the film (various specs) out to HDMI to watch the film as I work. However my 3 slots are full..... so I can't add a 3rd HDX card. Are there and good, solid, reliable options? (that would not eat up my 3rd slot, so I could add a 3rd HDX card) I'd rather not go back to a Canopus box..... due to the whole delay issue with the video.... any new developments? and NO... I have ZERO interest in some sort of expensive, loud, potentially unreliable PCI chassis. thanks Last edited by MixerGuy; 02-27-2015 at 07:05 PM. Reason: clarification |

Re: alternative to BlackMagic PCI card for video to HDMI?
assuming HD materal you do not have a data path big enough other than the PCI slot
in 10, BM is the best option if you got to 11 BM falls down but AJA seems to be the best also this is being moved to the Post - Surround - Video section where it belongs

the new Mini's have HDMI port put subject to the same pitfalls as any other desktop video
check this series from PTE on sync and span http://www.pro-tools-expert.com/home...ests-part.html

Re: alternative to BlackMagic PCI card for video to HDMI?
If you're using the Mac Mini, or any other recent Mac for Video Satellite LE, you can also use one of the Thunderbolt products by Black Magic or AJA, as they work the same way as PCIe cards.
If you just want to go direct from the Mac itself for HDMI, even if the Mac doesn't have HDMI, you can use a MiniDisplayport to HDMI adapter. Of course that will only give you extended desktop, where you can enlarge the video to fit the screen. You may want to go with one of the Thunderbolt units for more video out options. |
