Default RECORDING LEVEL

what's the best way to get a high record level I must always normalize my recordings
gear yamaha trb bass and bass pod xt

If you're recording 24-bit (which you should), you don't need high recording levels. In fact, your mixes will probably sound better with moderate recording levels. A lot of pros record at -18 on average. Normalizing is simply a calculated gain increase. You can raise gain so many other ways (faders, plug-ins, aux busses, etc.) there's no need to normalize each track.

But if you would prefer getting 'hot signals' and not normalizing, always keep your OUTPUT (left-most knob on the POD) at its maximum, and plug directly into one of the 002's preamps and adjust its gain accordingly (assuming you're using 002 or mbox).
