Default TDM II Architecture....

Is Protools HD1 as powerful as a (24 mix plus) since the TDM architecture is double the power or "DSP" than the TDM MIX systems?

I never really tested it but I think my HD 2 system is about twice as powerful as my MixPlus system was. (When running a 24-bit 44k session.)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">TDM II doesnt double your DSP power. It is the new more powerful motorola DSP with 9 DSP chips that gives you significantly more power than the Mix card using 6 older motorola chips.

TDM II allow more connection between each DSP chip, also know as timeslots. TDM II has double the amount of timeslots (512) compared to the older TDM. Moreover the older TDM connects to each other in parallel, while the new TDM II connects to each chip in series. Meaning less time slots are needed. You should check up Appendix B pg 567 of the PT ref manual for more clearer example.

A HD2 has about the same power as a Mixplus system but offers more flexible and powerful mixer.

are all 9 dsp's on a hd card considered equal?

(same amount of ram per dsp)?

my favorite plugins only utilize have the dsp power on my mix plus system because its not equal on mix systems..

I currently have a mix + system and am considering upgrading to hd..

You forget that a HD1 has 9 DSPs and a Mix Plus has 6 slower DSP with different RAM configurations.

A good rule of thumb is a 1 HD card = 1.8 Mix cards.

That should have been a Mix Card has 6 slower DSPs.

With a Mix3 you have the name number of DSP as a HD2 system but the HD cards are 50% faster.

So in pure processing power 9*1.5 = 13.5 and
a Mix+ is 12x1. Technically a single HD card has more processing power than a Mix+ system.
