would love to trade in my 002R for one, if they end up having that option... and if this existed... and if it rocked my socks...

ah well.

It would have to be a MAJOR difference (in upgrade, in features, more inputs, etc.) for me to trade my 002R for something new. I don't think that we will have any 004 coming out.
In my opinion PT LE will be continued for a while, with minor upgrades, and than replaced altogether by a new Avid DAW, that will still read all PT sessions, all Sibelius files (provided that Sibelius will be an integral part of that super DAW), and import multiple types of video files.
Just a speculation...

Given the specs of the mbox pro 3 and the fact that pt9 releases users from avid/digi interfaces, I can see that it may be tough for avid to slot a h/w box in that market category, but saying that, something with the purported quality of the new mbox with the i/o of the 003 may sell. Oh wait, its a fireface 800.

10 years ago when this older fart bailed on analog, the appeal of a closed system appealed. Now, with pt9 its a new ball game. If a super slick 004 shows up, I will look, but , for better or worse, the separated hw/sw now means that avid must make killer hw. FWIW I use both the 003 and ff800

I think the is a large potential market for a device that breaks the current 18 I/O limit of the LE interfaces and offers the tighter integration that only Avid can build into the product. A native hardware interface with excellent converters and 32 I/O that supported PT9 sample rates would do well especially if it offered an integrated control surface.

As an owner of an 002 mixer. I love the control surface, but next time I'm gonna get an interface without a control surface built in. It makes it less portable and adds cable clutter to my desktop. Plus those euphonix controllers look pretty sweet. ;-)

But yes I'll take a nice 32 channel interface.
