Correct me if I'm wrong but to be using a footswitch you must be in Auto-Punch mode.

When in Auto-Punch, you won't see a waveform until after you press stop, then the waveform will draw.

hmmm... and you don't hear anything when you play it back? (make sure you take it out of record).

PT can sometimes screw up the waveform rendering on the screen even though the audio is there and alright.

What version of PT are you using?

yeah I have everything set fine....if I just click the punch in...it works fine......it is not until I use the footswitch that it starts messing up and not displaying the waveform on screeen......I CAN HEAR WHAT WAS RECORDED.....I just can't see the wave form.....and once I use the footswitch it consitently does that even if I click record with the mouse.....could it be the type of footswitch I am using?.....do you need a certain kind?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Just to reiterate, make sure the display on the track is set to WAVEFORM not BLOCK. That is the only thing that makes sense.

In the edit window on the track, there is a pull down below the input and output routing. The options are Waveform, Block, Volume, Pan etc etc...
