hi all -
i have an 8100/80 with 96 megs of ram, and i'm currently using it with an Audiomedia II card and PT 4.1. i have a friend who's been running a mix+ system ( i think ) and now he's upgrading to HD, and he's offering to give/loan me an 888 interface. ( i think it's the 24 bit, but i'm not sure ). he says all i need is a "mix" card to run it. so i'm asking the forum - exactly what core cards am i looking for to use my nubus mac with this interface? will a project card work? do the 888 interfaces plug into both pci and nubus "mix" core cards the same way. somebody school me, please! thanks a lot! - ryan |

What you need is a NuBus Disk I/O card and a DSP Farm card. You may well find them in the Buy & Sell section of the DUC. I don't know if the 24-bit version of the 888 is compatible or not.
If you can get your hands on a NewerTech G3 accelerator I can highly recommend it! David |

hey david -
thanks for the reply. i did find a guy on the buy and sell that has a lot of nubus stuff for sale. and i have confirmed that i can only use 16 bit 888's with a nubus system. i'm trying to decide if it's worth it to go that far backwards just to get TDM. i could get a native system that would destroy an old nubus TDM for not much more money (or maybe less), but i don't know if i can handle the latency thing.... thanks again for the info! ryan |

888/24 or Mixplus cards are not compatible w/ nubus systems. 888/24 is pci based. Get yourself a 9600 or G3(pci based puters) and then 888/24 and Mixplus will work for you!

The 888/24 is compatible with PTIII Nubus (as is the Apogee AD8000 with correct AMBUS mod). The highest level of PT Software to be functioning with PTIII Nubus is Version 4.2. Under the interface choices , you should find the 888/24 (as well as other later model interfaces such as the 882/20). if you want to get a taste of PT in the TDM world, then the Nubus platform is a great way to start.

Hi, just a side note here, and I might be speaking out of ignorance...but I have been using a nubus mac (8100/AV)with PT 4.3.2 on OS 9.1 with a 16 bit 882 I/O. You just have to upgrade your DAE to version 3.4.2cs1.
Hope this helps in some way:) |

Bear in mind that PTIII NuBus only supports 16-bit audio files, so although you may be OK using the 888/24 you won't get the benefit of the extra 8 bits.
