Default Digitest \"failed test 185\"

to TechSupt:

system:

Powermac 8100/100
system 8.1 US
Digi Expansion Chassis
2 x PTIII NuBus Disk i/o
4 x DSP NuBus Farm
1 x SampleCell II w. TDM extension
2 x 888, 1 x SSD
IBM 9 gb UltraStar, Micropolis AV 4 gb

We have this system installed in our second control room and have lately experienced several problems (after somewhat flawless period):

1. Playback pitch started to "varispeed" down by and then. After that came a lot of crackling noise from outputs and the system crashed. Rebooting solved the problem, but when it started to happen more often, we disconnected the SSD from giving the master clock. Varispeeding stopped, but:

2. Increasing number of "disk too slow" -DAE errors from disk i/o 1 (connected to IBM UltraStar). Defragged and re-formatted disks, still the same. Took all cards off the expansion chassis and re-installed. System seemed to work well again, until:

3. System crashed and did not mount anymore the disk connected to disk i/o 1. We checked the disk with Norton and it appeared to be ok. Digitest gave "card failed test 185" for the Disk i/o 1.

Any help would be great (as we are in the middle of production, of course...)

Thank you in advance,

Rauli,

-Trash the DigiSetup File, Pro Tools preference, and DAE prefs (the entire folder) from the System Folder>Preferences folder. Empty the Trash and restart the Mac. When you go back into Pro Tools, do so from the Pro Tools Application Icon and not by double clicking on a session. Once Pro Tools is launched, reconfigure the hardware settings.

-Although defragmenting your audio drives with Norton is sufficient in most cases, you might want to go ahead and reinitialize your audio drives at this point. I would recommend using FWB Hard Disk Toolkit. Since this process erases the contents of the drive, make sure to backup all necessary data before proceeding.

-DigiTest 185 error:
No Drive Failure. This error is most often caused by a bad SCSI Dive Cable - have the user closely inspect their cable for bent pins or fraying around either connector

-Please make sure to adhere to the proper power up/down sequence when using a NuBus Expansion Chassis:
1) Always turn on the Expansion Chassis immediately after powering on the Macintosh and hearing the chime.

2) Always turn off the Expansion Chassis immediately after the Macintosh is shut down.
