7200/120 w.PT5
Hi!
We're trying to install PT5 on an old PPC 7200/120 here, but are unable to make it run. When we launch DAE, it just hangs. I tried everything I could think of. What can this be, and how do I fix it ? -charles [email protected] |

Re: 7200/120 w.PT5
Unfortunaely, there have been some cases where the first install of Pro Tools 5.0 will appear to crash but if you let it sit for a while (sometimes as long as 30 to 45 minutes) it will launch. Once it launches and is authorized the first time you shouldn't have any problems like this again, if this is the issue. It looks like it may be a copy protection issue. It's a known issue that only happens occasionally, we're in the process of tracking it down. Launch Pro Tools and let it sit for a while, it should eventually come up with an authorization dialogue of some sort. Thanks, Jon Digidesign Product Specialist |

Re: 7200/120 w.PT5
It goes past the Authorization window, but when DAE starts booting, it hangs.
Even when I boot DAE by itself, it hangs immediatly. -charles |

Re: 7200/120 w.PT5
What OS do you have installed on the 7200/120?
How much system RAM do you have installed and how much preferred memory is allocated to Pro Tools and DAE? Are you getting any verbal or numerical errors when this problem occurs? Brad |

Re: 7200/120 w.PT5
- OS 8.6 (same as the other computers that are running PT5 here)
- 128MB of ram (I know this is a bit small, but should work using a Disk I/O card) - I tried allocating more Ram to both PT and DAE, with no luck. I believe 38mb/38mb (but also tried it on preset amounts). -charles |

Re: 7200/120 w.PT5
Charles,
I ran a 7200/90 with AMIII and Project, but when I went to PT24 it wasn't enough machine. One problem is running a 601 processor that is soldered to the mother board. There's no way to even get it to a 601e, much less a G3. Even if you get 5.0 to install, I think you'll see major performance problems. There are a lot of other used, upgradable Macs out there, at reasonable prices. Best of luck doc22 |

Re: 7200/120 w.PT5
The 7200/120 is not a supported CPU for ProTools 5.0. Please see the official compatibility document on the web at http://www.digidesign.com/compato/
