So let me get this straight!!

Hi Everyone,
First time poster!
After years of working on many different DAW's I am new to PT and have to get some things straight.
The company I work for can buy an expensive Pro Tools system with AVOptionXL, a Pro Control, a fully blown out MAC, and within about a year find out that not only can we not move past versions 6.2.3 but the $10,000 AVoptionXL is being phased out for the V10 (adrenaline is so much more than audio folks need) or the crapy MoJo, the Pro Control is dead due to the new ICON (or Icon Jr.), and Digi is slowly making it obvious that their relationship with MAC (or visa-versa) is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Can this really be the industry standard for post work?

In my opinion, the industry standard is probably always going to stay mac. I have been hearing threats about PCs taking over the industry for around 3 years now...it hasnt happened and probably never will

Besides, If Digidesign (and other software/hardware friends) decided to not support the mac platform anymore, they would have a hell of a lot of angry post people on their hands...they wouldnt be able to hide from the riots...they would fear for their lives!

The system you are looking for is a great buy. PCs are becoming more and more compatible with post production needs everyday, but so many people in this industry use Macs, so why not stick to the platform that already dominates the industry.

Digi is slowly making it obvious that their relationship with MAC (or visa-versa) is quickly becoming a thing of the past.

The big 3 PC manufacturers are wining and dining Steve Jobs as we speak to allow the OSX platform to be licensed to them.
So if in a few years PCs are running a ported version of OSX, why would Dig drop Mac support???

Hardly. I mix movies on the pro control all the time. I love it. The d-control looks wonderful and i can't wait to get my hands on one, but its existence in no way cripples my pro control.

A few years ago when Apple first announced Final Cut Pro there was an attempt
by Avid/Digi to move its customers towards using PCs by bringing out new
systems on the PC only at first. There was a considerable negative reaction
to this and Avid then started releasing everything for both platforms. That said,
one can be sure that Avid's heart is more on the PC side now since their biggest
competitor is an Apple product. Most of the new high end Avids I see are PC now,
not that the editors are happy about it. On the DUC the huge majority of PT users
are on Macs.

I quite Agree but Apple is on a colision way to Digidesign since Logic was aquired by Apple and it seems that for this reason Apple needs now to aquire an Audio hardware company such as MOTU and make A full competion to Protools offering a total audio solution both software Logic and hardware MOTU as Apple's final audio solution. Besides PCs are running fast on PT and they are cheaper than Macs and this is happening on third world countries like mine ( Brazil, South america) Where 99,9% uses PCs Windows and people's incoming is getting worse day by day. Protools in my opinion is a much more easier and friendly application for musicians and newbies to learn than Logic , A very complicated and with a slow learning curve for the rest of us mainly people that can't read english so this is a discussion to fill an entire book , but this fight is up to them. Anyway I entered this forum to look up for .midnam files for synths that Digidesign did not provide at least up to version 6.4 and this in my opinion was negleted by digidesign and synth industries,but that's the way it is.
So enjoy life and let them to fight who is gonna be the winer.

If the V10 is too much and the Mojo is crappy, what is it that you're looking for?

Just to be clear, the Mojo is capable of broadcast quality video, resolves to blackburst, has component, composite and Svideo I/O capabilities, provides Avid compatibility, etc., etc.

Simply not true. In the last few years, there have been Pro Tools features that have been released on Mac first and others released on PC first. It has nothing to do with political manuevering. If we could, we would release everything for Mac and PC at the same time, but logistics don't always allow that.

The goal of Digidesign is to equally support Mac and PC and let the customer make the choice.

Thank you for your reply. The point I was trying to get across, in my earlier post, was an overall feeling of being left out in the cold or said another way "where's Digi going next and what piece of equipment do I have to buy/dump to keep up". From what I can tell (I am certianly no expert) it seems like the only thing Digi makes that it upgrades is it's software (even though I can't upgrade past 6.2.3). Meaning almost all other hardware is trashed for newer versions, and that is where the MOJO comes in. I now use the AVOptionXL where I can open a Avid movie track and start recording video right to my session. In the future I am supposed to digitize my video using the MOJO or Adrenline with Avid software, then create an OMF, then export the OMF, then bring the OMF into my PT session. Four steps that used to be one!! Although I am aware of some of the added benifits that the Avid software provides it doesn't seem like progress to me. Certianly not when you are in a hurry. Why not incorporate those software benefits into the AVOptionXL and call it done? My guess is that Digi makes most of it's profits by constantly selling new hardware. Correct?
