Default Clip editing problem !

Hello, i have a problem editing clips. Ok when i record a track, and then record over it without looping, i see that in the clip list i have 2 audio clips. The problem is when i drag the first waveform around and it s supose to appear the first one from the bottom (as like in Cubase, Reaper) it doesnt , its blank . When i expand playlists there are no clips ( when i make a loop record there are).
Please help me .

Try enabling "loop recording."

Pro Tools doesn't work like that. Underlying clips doesn't "auto-expand" or appear when you move the latest clips in the timeline.

But you have a couple ways to reveal previous takes:

- if Match criteria is set to Clip start, and you've recorded from the same spot, you can select the visible clip and right-click it > Matching alternates. Here you can just select an alternate clip, or expand alternates to new playlists or tracks.

- select the clip currently in the timeline, and Ctrl+drag (Mac) an alternate clip from the clip list. It will snap to selection start, so this method only works if alternate takes starts from the same spot.

- drag an alternate clip from the clip list in Spot mode

Yes, but when i select expand to new playlist, only the playlists recorded in loops are shown, not the overrecorded clips.

That's not how Pro Tools behaves here. All takes are available as Matching alternates, both those loop recorded, and the single passes. Do you have Matching Alternates > Match Criteria... > In addition to: Clip start? Also, do you record from the exact same place every time?

Oh and another thing very important , when i click match criteria and i doesnt select any alternates and select in ´´adiction to all´´ tick, all of my takes are starting from the same place where is the cursor at the moment, witch means that are out of time. How can i fix that ?

It works fine here, but I'm not sure we're doing the same thing. I can punch in/out over an existing clip, select that clip, and expand it as an alternate take to a new track by track name, and it's placed perfectly.

I believe it's because you right-click the clip without selecting it first, which will place the clip start at the insertion point, and out of time. If you do it this way, you need to spot the clips to original time stamp after expanding.

I don't like to record overdubs or entire passes onto the same track, but I do it when I'm recording myself sitting in my tracking room, say, several passes playing acoustic guitar. After recording, I select the latest recorded clip in the timeline, and Ctrl+drag the other takes from the clip list onto new tracks. This command will snap clip start to the selected one, and since I record from the same spot each time, it works perfectly.
