VENUE D-Show 2.8.6 Console Software Update
March 23, 2011
For VENUE D-Show®, VENUE Profile, VENUE Mix Rack, and VENUE SC48 Systems
VENUE D-Show 2.8.6 addresses issues discovered after the release of D-Show 2.8, and includes all fixes provided previously in D-Show 2.8.1, D-Show 2.8.2, and D-Show 2.8.5. Affected VENUE systems running D-Show software version 2.8.x can be updated using the D-Show 2.8.6 update.
Please Note:
VENUE systems running version 2.7 or earlier must first be upgraded to D-Show 2.8.1 before applying the D-Show 2.8.6 update. If you do not already own version 2.8 or higher, VENUE 2.9 Upgrade Kits are available for purchase from any VENUE reseller.
VENUE MADI Option Card:
- VENUE D-Show 2.8.5 added hardware support for the VENUE MADI Option Card.
- Customers purchasing a VENUE MADI Option Card qualify for a free VENUE 2.9 Upgrade Kit. This kit can acquired by including the VENUE 2.9 Upgrade Kit (part number 9920-62733-00) as a zero dollar line item on the same purchase order as the VENUE MADI Option card purchase.
- D-Show 2.8.5 or higher must be installed prior to installing the VENUE MADI Option Card in the FOH Rack or Mix Rack.
Who Should Use D-Show Console Software Version 2.8.6?
This update is recommended for all D-Show 2.8.x console software users and contains fixes in the following areas:
- Plug-in processing
- Firmware
And fixes from previous 2.8.x updates in the following areas: - Snapshot crossfades
- Device discovery
- Personal Q
What's Fixed in Version 2.8.6?
The following issues were present in D-Show software 2.8.5, and are now fixed in version 2.8.6.
Fixed: Noise or No Signal on Output Buses that Contain Plug-Ins and GEQs (Item VSW-5891)
- On configurations with less than 24 GEQs, Outputs buses that contain both inserted plug-ins and GEQs may not output signal, or may output noise.
Fixed: Forcing a Fader Firmware Download Causes Faders 9–16 to Be Unresponsive on Sidecar, Profile, or SC48 (Item VSW-5948)
- On systems with VENUE software 2.8.5 or lower, forcing a fader firmware download causes faders 9–16 to be unresponsive on D-Show Sidecar control surfaces, Profile control surfaces, or SC48 consoles.
In addition to the above, the following fixes from all previous versions of D-Show software 2.8.x are included in version 2.8.6.
Fixed: Plug-in Noise issue (Item VSW-5077)
- Inserting plug-ins in the Plug-ins Rack sometimes produces noise on the channels with plug-ins inserted, or causes audio to stop passing through the plug-in. This can happen, for example, when adding plug-ins to the Plug-ins Rack, when moving plug-ins between rack slots, or when loading a Show file.
- The issue is limited to system configurations using zero, eight or 16 Graphic EQs (GEQs), and is most likely to occur immediately after modifying the configuration of the Plug-ins Rack (including loading a Show file). There is little chance of encountering the issue during a performance; however, it could arise when switching Show files between bands (each with its own plug-ins rack), or during a rehearsal when the engineer is trying different plug-in configurations.
Fixed: Snapshot Crossfades Can Cause the Console Fader Position to Show an Incorrect Value (Item VSW-5160)
- When using crossfades to transition between snapshots, the console faders may show a different position than the actual value, which is shown on-screen. When this occurs, touching a fader may cause a noticeable jump in level.
Fixed: Lost Control Surface Components are Not Shown as Missing on the Options > Devices Tab (Item VSW-5158)
- When a VENUE Profile console, VENUE D-Show Main or VENUE D-Show Sidecar is lost (such as during a power failure, or when the unit is turned off or disconnected from system) the unit remains visible on the Options > Devices tab instead of being shown as not connected.
Fixed: Blue "Controller Detected" LEDs in PQ View of the Outputs Page Fail to Illuminate when the System is Initially Powered Up (Item VSW-5752)
- If the Personal Q Rack is connected when the system is initially powered on, any connected Personal Q Controllers will fail to report their "Controller Detected" status on the Outputs Page of the D-Show software. Power cycle the PQ Rack or hot plug the PQ Controllers to refresh the "Controller Detected" status.
Known Issues
The following issues affect all versions of D-Show software 2.8.x, and are not addressed in version 2.8.6. Where applicable, a workaround has been provided. Also see the D-Show 2.8.1 Read Me for other known issues.
On-screen Graphics Can Be Slow or Sluggish When a VNC (Remote Ethernet Control) Connection is Active (Item VSW-5580)
- Controlling a VENUE system remotely using VNC Ethernet control may cause a noticeable slowdown in the on-screen meters and graphics.
Workaround: In some cases, this issue can be resolved by re-installing the ECx Ethernet Control host software on the VENUE system. This software can be found on the ECx Ethernet Control CD included with the VENUE system, or it can be downloaded here:
Delay Values for Mains Left/Right Channels Not Properly Applied (Item VSW-5663)
- Entering a delay value for the Mains Left/Right busses results in seemingly random values, and it is not possible to enter an exact value.
Workaround: Enter the desired delay value on the Center/Mono bus, then copy and paste the Center/Mono settings to the Left and Right buses. To copy/paste:
- Right-click the Center/Mono bus and choose Copy.
- Right-click the Left bus and choose Paste. Both the Left and Right buses will be updated to the desired value.
When FX Returns 9-16 are Bank Safe'd on VENUE Profile, the Hidden Bank Clip LEDs are Always Lit (Item VSW-5739)
- The Hidden Bank Clip LEDs will light for any bank safed FX Return channel 9-16, even if a hidden channel is not clipping.
