Default Magma PE6R4

Had a search on the Digi site, didn't find the answer, figure someone here could tell me,

Putting an HD3 into a Magma PE6R4.

The PCI Express interface card, does it need to go into a particular slot in the Mac Pro?

I know the Mac Pro has 1 PCI 2.0 16x slot, and 2 4x slots. Since the Magma card is 4x, it should work in any slot, right?

Here is how mine is setup.

Although my mac is the first special order 8 core, I have the Geforce 7300GT in slot one X16. The bridge card is in the 4th slot. I have the first profile selected which is X16 Lane graphics slot+one X8 Lane and Two X1 lanes. This shows both cards running at maximum speed. My core card is in the chassi farthest to the right, followed by the process cards.

It has worked flawless for me for a year.

They are loud. Chassis should be in another room.

There have been several posts on replacing the fans, which appears to cost around $30 and take the noise down quite a bit. And you can also replace the power supply with a $100 one or so, to get rid of those noisy fans. I expect I might have to do both of these things as I expect to have to have the chassis very close to me for now.

Insanely loud. You pretty much have to replace the power supply to make it quiet. I did that as well as put in a quiet fan. It is now almost silent.

Which power supply did you go with, and where did you get it? I'm realizing I'm likely going to have to do this...

actually I'd like to know what you got and where you got it as well. I'm looking to replace my G4 and got knows I don't need to replace it with another Jet engine.

thanks

I got from a place here in Australia. I got a JSP Bluefire2 600w, but I think you can get pretty much any standard ATX PSU as long as it more or less fits the specs. Here is what Magma said when I asked them about it:

"It is not recommended to use a different power supply unit.
But if you prefer to use a commercialized off the shelf standard ATX power supply it is OK as long as you are using the same specs.

What about the 2 20-pin connectors? You can use any of the two 20-pins. You can plug a standard ATX PSU with one 20-pin connector."

I also put a quiet fan in the front intake. I put a noise fan reducer in too to slow the speed of the fan. Like this:

I'm no techie, but I found the job pretty simple. Took about 20mins.

Cheers
