Default Has anyone noticed this???

I've been noticing that my 192 hits in the red before the mixer in the Pro Tools software. Whatz up with that? I glance at the meters at the 192 when mixing just like when I use to when mixing in the 888/24 but, I've been noticing this a lot from the 192i/o. I'm not going out to a CD Recorder or anything like except the big knob then to speakers but, I'm not sure if I should trust the 192i/o or the Pro Tools Software. I BTD all the time.
How can I fix this problem? Is the 192 reading the levels wrong or is the software?

Thanx

M2E

My bet is that most everyone (including me) is not even looking at the i/o.

The vast majority of 192's are probably behind dark glass if not in another room altogether.

I'm still hoping someone else will comment with more of an answere for you (and me) though.

There is another post indicating the difference. 192 goes red at 0-(0dbfs) the more accurate and detailed software goes red at 0+ (D-Clips).

what happens if you put the signal generator on the lets say out one - and set it to -3 db on the protools meter - does it read -3 db on the 192 meter?

Depending on how the meter is weighed you can get different results... But a sinus tone should render the same result if the system is calibrated correctly and both are dancing in the digital domain...
