compression several vocals at once??
Hi, everyone.
I would like to know if I can use one compressor to compress several background vocals at once, so that I can process all the tracks simultaneously in group with one compressor. Is this well known method??? Does anyone know if anybody is using a compressor to compress several background vocals like this? This is for live church event. We have only one compressor left and I wanna know if this is possible. Thanks in advance. Jin |

Re: compression several vocals at once??
Hi
You can buss your vocals to an aux input and put one compressor across the aux. There are other ways but this works fine for me. Post again if you need to know how to do this. Hope this helps. |

Re: compression several vocals at once??
Are you talking about protools or a PA system?

Re: compression several vocals at once??
We have five individual backgound vocals in our church. I made a group and used group insert to patch one compressor. Is this right way to use the compressor for this matter? What would be the benefit of using one compressor to compress a group of background vocals?
Is there any drawback?? Please advise. Thanks in advance. Jin |

Re: compression several vocals at once??
Sure, you can use a compressor like that. Why not? If I'm mixing live sound and only have a few channels of comps, then I definately use them on sub-groups. You can do this even if you have a ton of comps. It works especially well on vocal subgroups.

Re: compression several vocals at once??
You are doing it the right way. Just keep in mind that if any one singer belts it out suddenly, all the others will be dropped in level as the compressor just looks at overall signal level so you still need to be on top of blending the voices.
