Default Issue setting up HUI control

I've borrowed a friend's Tascam FW-1082 and was hoping to use it as a control surface. I've tried connecting the Firewire and it's not being recognized by it's control software so I tried just setting it up to send MIDI commands. The MIDI IN light on the 1082 is flashing red and when I move faders the MIDI OUT light flashes green for a second then Pro Tools tells me it can't properly communicate with the HUI device.

Chain is as such:

FW-1082 MIDI I/O CH 1 -> M-Audio ProFire 2626 MIDI I/O -> PT9 on Mac OS 10.6.8 2.7 Ghz i5 w/ 8GB RAM

Any thoughts? I feel like I'll be kicking myself as soon as this is resolved...
