The starting point for me is the Eleven plugins and amp (and cab) sim. The other amp/cab plugins I use are from Softube, or I use Eleven Racks or Fractal FX boxes.

If you want loadable impulse responses etc. and folks who like to spend a lot of time playing with that, uh that's not me.

UAD have stuff as well.

Speakers only? Assuming you're inputting the signal of a preamp somehow, you'd want an IR Loader. There are a bunch. ThreeBodyTech's Cabinetron is currently the most full-featured, but Aurora DSP has a freebie called Fenrir.

If you want full amp sims, the offerings from Neural DSP and Scuffham are the most realistic for me. Tonex is good, but sometimes a pain with gain-staging. Eleven is good. Bogren's Speaker IRS are great, no matter how you use them.

Well, it would be for Synergy Preamps (Diezel VH-4 and Soldano SLO).

I saw this guy on Youtube comparing the Synergy to a real SLO using the Two Notes Torpedo Wall of Sound Plugin and he came pretty close.

For UA it seems to me the Sound City Studio could do a similar job if I‘m not wrong.

I have 11 rack hardware for stage use only. For plugin sim I find Plugin Alliance's sound so much better. RockRack and ENGL's to be more exact.

Yeah, that should get you there. With all of these IR products, there's some models that are great and some that are not.

These days I do like Cabinetron if I'm mixing, because you can combine multiple IRs and phase-align them (!) and you get a fair bit of control for EQ and space adjustments. But they only come with a few (decent!) IRs. You can load your own in.

I also really have to pump Bogren Digital again, because of 2 experiences I had. First, I was cruising through the presets of the latest NI Guitar Rig (7), and as usual, I was thinking "nice effects, mediocre tones, for realism". Then I hit one preset where my jaw dropped. It had the new IR loader feature in it, with a Bogren IR (it ships with a few). Suddenly, Guitar Rig was a contender. Switching the "amps" while keeping that IR also yielded more satisfying results than through the "stock" NI IR models. Second, I demoed their newish "IRDX" plugin, which is supposed to go after your chain/IR, and emulates the compression/non-linearity of a driven speaker. I was surprised that it did give that final 5% that made the sound more credible when doing sleazy 80s hair metal.

Also, fwiw, I do track through some Native-only Amp Sims with the Carbon in DSP Safe mode. As long as I am not running hella-latency plugins at that moment it's always fine. Every so often I have to nudge the track like 7-10ms later after it's recorded.
