Default Recommendations For An External Volume Control Solution For My Headphones

Hello.

Seeking recommendations for an external volume control solution for my headphones.

My Carbon setup is situated a bit out of reach for easy volume adjustment.

Considering adding a volume control device between the headphone jack on the Carbon and my headphones, ideally placed on my desktop.

Preferring a solution that maintains sound neutrality.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Sparky

I'm personally considering the Mackie Big Knob (passive), but I'm not sure if it has a talkback function. But if you don't require a talkback, then this should be fine :)

i have the Presonus Station v2 which handle 3 input sources, 3 sets of monitors, 4 sets of headphones, and has the talkback feature. i like it because i can mute, "dim", or set the overall level with the large knob to any of the speakers easily (and it has individual setting for adjusting levels on each speaker output so you can calibrate the levels fairly eassily).

Hi tope d.

I too was kinda looking at the Mackie unit. I did notice there was no headphone specific output.

Would the solution be to just build an adapter to merge the 2 mono outputs into a female 1/4”?

And I don’t require a talkback function - so would not miss that feature…

Thanks

I have a Heritage Audio RAM 2000.

It's got a TON of I/O, SPDIF & BT inputs. 2 HP outs that double as cue's with the proper patch.

Solved a lot of problems for me: Keep my line outputs from Carbon. I personally don't care for the HP/Monitor section in the Carbon, so this bypasses that all together and adds a bunch of extra flexibility.

Unfortunately no. +4dBU line level will not drive a pair of headphones to any reasonable listening level. You need a headphone amp in there somewhere.

Thanks for this suggestion foccile

I checked out the manual on this unit - but couldn’t determine if the large volume knob also controlled the headphone volume or just the speaker output.

Thanks for this suggestion [email protected] - that’s one nice piece of hardware.

A little out of my league right now - but one day… ya never know…
