Default Access Carbons Outputs 7-8

I finally got a DB25 cable for my outputs, and alternate outputs B (outputs 1-2 on the DB25) and C (outputs 3-4 on the DB25) are working great and are easy to control.

My questions how to get access to outputs 7-8 on the DB25?

When I plug into them I can't get any sound to come out?

You need to post much more detail on exactly what you are doing system and configuration wise and list your system either in a thread post or list in your signature line in your User Control Panel (see mine below)

That said
I am unclear what you mean by
Quote:
alternate outputs B (outputs 1-2 on the DB25) and C (outputs 3-4 on the DB25)
??? I don't show any "alternate" B or C designations---- The only Alt designations in my Hardware page "Main tab is -- Alt 1 (LINE 1-2) and -- Alt 2 (LINE 3-4)

Are you using multiple sets of stereo monitor speakers ? OR are you doing surround sound
If not, then there is no need to be selecting any Alt config.

Again why access 7-8 and what about 5-6 ????
In other words
Much more specific detail is needed

I say this because if you are not doing surround ? or multiple monitors then there are no Alt configurations involved and access is configured for all 8 DB25 outputs and inputs is on the Hardware Setup page > Line I/O tab ???

My LINE I/O tab looks like this

And my Main tab looks like

Sorry, I'm talking about the same thing. I just said "B" and "C" because that is what they correspond to on the front of my Carbon interface when selecting them.

To be more specific, sorry I wasn't before, I'm trying to add additional monitors. (Not surround.) So yes 5-6 would be fine.

Thanks for the help!

Pretty sure this is a Read The Manual situation. But my understanding is that Carbon is designed to have only 3 sets of stereo monitors configured to be controlled by the right encoder knob. That's the Main, Alt 1 (outs 3&4), and Alt 2 (outs 5&6). If you want to route or assign outputs 7&8 to anything else in particular, you'll need to set it up with the I/O Setup in Pro Tools.

Manual and Product ages can be found in the 2 sticky posts at the top of this Carbon sub-forum

You should have no trouble assigning Outputs 7-8 to a bus if you want to send stuff out - either hardware inserts or duplicating the Main Bus outputs, but it will be full-scale (the volume control won't work on those outputs, so it will be LOUD).

If you want Outputs 7-8 to respond to the volume control, the only way to do it is switch to one of the surround modes - but that means losing individual volume control over MainOuts, Alt 1 (LINE 1-2) and Alt 2 (LINE 3-4). Instead, all outputs will increase and decrease in volume together.

It's not clear what you are trying to do, so hard to advise.
As MassiveKerry points out, you need to use I/O Setup to control complex routing.

Yes if only one additional set of monitors, why not use either Alt 1-2 or Alt 3-4 ? Additional monitors is what those alt paths are specifically for

Maybe this will help

My Main and Alts are all currently used up. It is going to a Spectrum Analyzer and my Dorrough meter.

I can get 5-6 or 7-8 coming out of Pro Tools fine now, I guess I was wondering how to make it come out during normal OSX use?

If that makes sense.

I am not familiar with either the Meter or Analyzer units

So all I can say FYI is I have a set of monitor speakers connected to the main "Monitor" -1/4 output jacks on the back of the Carbon and I can hear 3rd party apps from the computer (like say YouTube) etc. just fine ??

What about switching the Meters and Analyzer to the 5-6 and 7-8 connections instead ?

And that is exactly what I'm trying trying to do. Just not sure how to get it, feel I am close.
