Can Carbon be used with other installs of PT?

Hi all

I want to take my Carbon interface to a friend's studio. He has the same version of PT as me, but runs a different interface.

Can Carbon be used with other PT software than came with the unit. I.e. will versions of PT and ultimate of the same version as mine work with Carbon?

Yes, the version of PT needs to be equal or later than the version that came out with the Carbon - 2020.11 I think - but other than that, it will just work.

If you plug Carbon into a machine running a later version of PT, it will update the Carbon firmware, but I don't think that will cause any problems when running it with earlier versions at a later point.

Pro Tools Requirements
Carbon SN ENENG
Pro Tools | Ultimate 2020.11 (or later)
Pro Tools 2020.11 (or later)
Carbon SN ENESI
Pro Tools | Ultimate 2021.10 (or later)
Pro Tools 2021.10 (or later)

So the version of Carbon you have is important - the SN stand for Serial Number and the ENENG or ENESI are the first 5 letters of the serial number.

Your specific question - based around the same version of PT at your friend's house as at yours - yes, no problem, there is nothing special about the version of PT which comes with Carbon. It's all the same thing.

That's a good question and I don't know the answer so will be interested the replies ...

Since the PT Version firmware installs into Carbon unit ( I think)?
in theory it seems like it should work ? But I wonder if you would have to take your iLok as well for your license to work ?????

There is not a difference between the Pro Tools software you receive with Carbon and PT software you may already have. Standard & Ultimate Subscriptions & Perpetual licenses will both work fine. You can see the link below as well...
