Unhappy HELP!!! Native PCI Install

Just got my new HD Native & Omni today. I've spent the last few hours installing, removing and reinstalling the PCI card again and again. I've tried all the slots, made sure the card is seating securely, etc... But every time I restart the MacPro (dual quad 3Ghz "Clovertown" w/ 8 Mb RAM, 10.6.8 & ProTools 9.0.4)) I get the hardware test "pass"tone, see the gray apple and spinning gear for several seconds, then the dreaded "you must push the power button to shut down and restart...).

This is not my first PCI install - not by a long shot. And I've tried everything I can think of. I have an ASC and an email report in to Avid Support (the phone line had a 30+ minute wait). I'm beginning to think I've got a bad card.

Any suggestions will be appreciated, as for now I'm dead in the water.

Tech Support helped me out. So, just in case anyone runs into the same issue...

HD 9.0.4 DOES run under OS 10.6.8 - BUT, only if the Native PCI card firmware is updated under 10.6.7. Fortunately, I had 10.6.7 on an external drive. So a restart under 10.6.7, 9.0.4 install, firmware update (initiated by launching PT) and I'm good to go w/9.04 on 10.6.8.

Maybe this is the problem I had? I couldn't complete a firmware update under 10.6.8, so Pro Tools couldn't launch.
Its a temperamental card, thats for sure!

There are instructions that specifically state NOT to install 9.0.4 while in 10.6.8.

You must:
1) Install 9.0.4 while in 10.6.7 (this means you have to find someone with a Mac Pro without 10.6.8 if yours is already updated to 10.6.8)
2) Launch Pro Tools while in 10.6.7 (in order to update the card's firmware)
3) Then upgrade your OS to 10.6.8.

It's not necessarily a buggy card. You just had to follow the instructions in a very specific order.

Second this statement, DigiTechSupt was very clear of the procedure.

Yeah - you must upgrade the firmware under 10.6.7. That's what I said - isn't it? ;-()
