Default Purchasing PT from someone

Hi guys,

Someone has offered me a good price to purchase their copy of Pro Tools 12 (perpetual license); there's nothing wrong with it, they are just simply not getting on with the software and are going to use a different DAW.
They're actually selling their Avid M-Box too, but I'm not needing that.

I was wondering what would be the best way to do it.

There doesn't seem to be an option to transfer the ownership - something to do with the date in which it was purchased, so that's not going to work.

He's suggested that I could actually have the iLok it's on and then try to register it to my account, but I guess that wouldn't work either?

Has anyone got an idea of what would be the best way to do this?

They need to give you the ilok their ilok account and their AVID account and you will forever have to pretend you are them. There is no way to transfer PT12 or PT12HD that I know of.

This language in the TOO has been there from the get go. One should assume the "not currently available" = forever.

"*Please note that Pro Tools software products that have been upgraded to the newer 2015 support plans and newer Pro Tools products which include
2015 support plans are not currently available for transfer."

Thanks guys,

All of that makes sense, and I was afraid of that.
It seems that you're right, the only way to do it is to take over the iLok and the AVID account in someone else's name.
The seller has actually said that he's happy for me to do all of that, but it's not really something I want to do.

It looks like the only thing I can do is buy a new copy if I want it in my name.

On another note; I actually already have a PT10+11 bundle which I'm currently using, on my iLok. I bought it off someone a year or two ago.
I'd prefer to just purchase an upgrade but I don't think I can do this if I only have it on the iLok and not on my AVID account?

Yes. It's probably time to buy your own copy if you want to be able to upgrade as new versions come out. Check with Audio Deluxe. They have great prices on lots of the software that we all use.

You can Upgrade using your Pro Tools 11 Bundle. Looking into the Transfer of Ownership question as well, stay tuned...

Ahh, you were right, I could upgrade.

I got in touch with Avid - they were extremely helpful - I thought that since I didn't have anything registered in my Avid account then I wouldn't be able to upgrade; turns out that wasn't the case!
All I had to do was purchase the upgrade and then confirm my iLok account, it then found my PT11 bundle license and replaced it with the PT12 one (with the licenses to 10 and 11 too).

I'm now running PT12 happily and at the upgrade price!

thanks for all your help guys!
