Why does 5.1 take so long to start after hitting PLAY?
I just upgraded to 5.1 and I found that there is a delay of about 2 seconds when i have as little as 12 channels in record and i hit the space bar to start playing the track. Whats the deal? I didnt have this in 5.0.1 and nothing in my rig has changed! I used to hit play and no matter how many tracks i had in record (up to 60) and the session would immediately start playing. This is killing me when I am trying to do fast punches. I feel like i am working on a Studer A80 again! Please help! "mad"

Re: Why does 5.1 take so long to start after hitting PLAY?
Set the limit record time to 5 minutes in the preferences menu. It might have changed on installation.

Also make sure that your DAE buffer setting is set to 2.

Re: Why does 5.1 take so long to start after hitting PLAY?
Are you using any RTAS plug-ins? There is a larger latency issue with RTAS plug-ins due to the way they use the CPU for processing.

Check your memory control panel. If this is set above 1000, that will cause a playback delay

Re: Why does 5.1 take so long to start after hitting PLAY?
The "Limit Record Allocation" pref set too high or defaulted will slow things down if your recording partition is really large (18 gig+)
PB Buffer should be 2 on any PT system except PT III hardware Disk Cache at 512 in the Memory Contorl Panel ** but I 've seen this one a lot-> make sure you don't have the "2 BAR" button on in the transport. Open you Transport Window and display all 3 sections of it. The "2 BAR" button automatically gives you a 2 bar pre-roll and if you use certain keypad configurations and/or quick keys its pretty easy to turn on accidentally. also, make sure Pre-Roll is off and trash any old PT (prior verisons) prefs satisfaction guaranteed |

Re: Why does 5.1 take so long to start after hitting PLAY?
Are you using HFS+ disks? If so, they take longer to prime and someone else mentioned the cure: limit your disk space allocation to under 60 minutes.
