I tried the two changes mentioned earlier about changing the two 1's to 0's in the dark mode file and it worked. However, and this is a big one it royally screws up the coloring/visibility in MIDI or Instrument tracks for the MIDI notes making it almost impossible to see the MIDI notes. Changed back and all is back to what dark mode was originally. There's a LOT of parameters that can be changed in that file.


If you do go to make changes to the file first change the permission of the folder holding the file to give an admin account the ability to read/write. By default it's set to read only. AND to have insurance before mucking about with the file make a file and store it in a completely different folder.

Thats your opinion... Ive worked on 2 different rigs now in dark mode, my own rig was and still is just fine in dark mode, but the other rig was set to dark what resulted in hard to read knobs and difficult to work with. After changing some settings in the mac and on the screen, its superb.

And then again its a taste thing, ALL customers have their own opinion. Mine is: I LIKE IT.

It's crazy that Pro Tools has is a color palette control that does not do anything useful. It's just like it's broken... it's such an utterly confusing/useless way of setting anything. That's where adjustments for this stuff should live. My main objection against a dark background you get super saturated bright waveforms that hit you in the face so much that it overpowers the dark UI. And I can't find a sweet spot with system wide screen brightness. This should not be rocket science but this looks like a first effort that needs work and some real testing.

I'm so glad to know it wasn't just me! Totally agree Darryl. I like the dark mode concept, but thought either I was doing something wrong, or I missed some new control setting when the screen was so hard to read, even when I increased brightness to max. Let's hope Avid quickly tweaks and fixes this one!
