Re: pro tools 9 on XP
While there are a handful of folks that claim to have PT9 working on XP, it is not tested or supported. My 2 cents; once I spent a little time with Windows 7, I don't miss XP, so, if you are a computer genius/geek, give it a try. If you want a smooth working system without a lot of headache, do your homework and do it right. In your case(as it was with my) if you make the move, do it smartly by removing your XP drive and set it aside(and leave it exactly as it is). Install a fresh drive, do a fresh load of OS, tweak it and install PT9. Then save a drive image once you have tested and found it solid(no point in saving an image of a bad working system). After going a few months of smooth sailing, only then, would I clone over the old XP drive(I always keep a cloned version of my latest system when it works good, so if it goes bad, I can recover quick).

Re: pro tools 9 on XP
I had PT9 working on an XP 32 bit system - sort of - I got video errors and crashes. After upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit, PT9 runs error free. My computer was custom built in 2008 for dual boot (XP 32 / XP 64), and is now triple boot (XP32 / XP64 / Windows 7 64 bit). I do not use the XP boots anymore, but it is nice to have as backup. I now use this computer to solely run PT9 and it is solid, no crashes whatsoever. I have another computer for music DAW, and two more for browsing the internet etc.
Asfar as I know PT9 is supported on Windows 7 only (not XP) so to save a lot of hassle and get proper support I would recommend that you upgrade. Peter www.summeroflovemusic.com |

Re: pro tools 9 on XP
just to answer your initial question.
i have it running on my home set-up with XP sp3 BUT i only use it for the odd overdub. i also use it for most of my editing. it runs flawlessly. now i'm not saying its gonna work for you, i put it under very little strain. i track in work on a hd system and mix on reaper. so if you're looking to use it as an all in 1 solution YMMV also there's no support and i do know that with one update everything could go t1ts up! but its working nicely at the moment. |
