Quicktime wrapper error when importing Quicktime file
Thanks, Drew & Craig.
Trashed PT12. Did a Recovery reinstall of Yosemite. Reinstalled PT12. Still same errors importing h.264 Quicktime file: [drag-n-drop] "Could not complete your request because the QuickTime wrapper plug-in failed to load." [import command] "Unable to link to file [filename].mov dur to either a missing CODEC or the file may be unsupported." By comparison, PT12 loaded an .mp4 file without trouble. \system\library\QuickTime shows both AppleVAH264HW.component and QuickTimeH264.component (in addition to the MPEG & MPEG4 components). However, I'm noting that INFO for the problematic file lists an "mebx" CODEC in addition to H.264 & AAC. Could MEBX be the issue here? The file is video shot on an iPhone 6. Re: Quicktime wrapper error when importing Quicktime file
Found this thread dating back as late as 2014. Same issues... but none of the suggested "fixes" have worked in my case.
Still searching... http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=340394&page=9 |

Re: Quicktime wrapper error when importing Quicktime file
Why are you trying to work with H.264 in the first place? especially straight from a phone. Transcode to an editing CODEC.

Re: Quicktime wrapper error when importing Quicktime file
Well, Tom, under HD 10 and vanilla 11, I had no issue dragging and dropping an iPhone video. This has only become a problem since I moved to 12.
My area of expertise is audio; not video. So, I have no concept of "transcoding." And you don't know what you don't know until someone tells you. If someone would care to give me a brief what, why & how to transcoding, that would be helpful. Otherwise, I can Google it. Thanks! |

Re: Quicktime wrapper error when importing Quicktime file
I'm having the same problem all of a sudden. It doesn't matter if I transcode, if the file was originally H.264 it won't load.

Re: Quicktime wrapper error when importing Quicktime file
Hey there wolf. I used HandBrake last night (after learning the what & why of transcoding) to convert the Quicktime "wrapper" to an MP4 container. That did the trick. I was able to drag-n-drop right into PT 12.2.1
Of course, at a slow/high quality setting, it took almost 2 hours just to get thru the transcoding. Like you, I don't know what has changed - nor why H.264 (which appears to be such a modern video standard) should not be easily handled by Protools. It didn't seem to be a problem before. And I believe I used PT to resync audio to an iPhone video within the past 2 weeks. Worked for me then. |

Re: Quicktime wrapper error when importing Quicktime file
Thanks, Quacks.
Luckily, this thread actually just resolved my issue. http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?p...41#post2308141 There was in illegal character in the file path! I can't believe that in 2015 PT is still unable to handle a simple " / " character. |
