Default TimeShift clicks with varispeed

Hi,

has someone found a way to stop the AS Time-Shift plug from producing periodical clicks when using vari-speed?

I always use the old pitch-shift plug for simple slow-down effects.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Frank.

The Pro Tools v5 implementation of this same plug-in produced clicks when doing a straight varispeed. If the code hasn't been thoroughly re-written, I imagine the bug is still there. I called Digi long ago about this (1999? 2000?), never heard anything, and bought Serato's Pitch 'n Time. Haven't looked back. PnT's straight varispeed is clean and smooth like an old-fashioned sampler. Check it out.

Best,

I think you overread something.
TimeShift didn´t exist back then. It came when elastic was introduced AFAIK.
I find sarato inferiour to digi´s "pitch shift" when working on dialog. Serato is only good for complex stereo and multi-channel stuff, but that´s just my opinion.

In this speciffic case I am not talking about typical pitch-shift artifacts. I´m talking about clearly audible clicks. You can hear them in preview and in the rendered files.

You're right, it's not exactly the same, but the ye olde pitch shift AS plug-in produced clicks when it should have been doing a simple and clean varispeed ("time correction" off). Artifacts from actual time compression/expansion are another thing entirely. Interesting thig to hear you liking the Digi plug more than PnT. Have you tried the new Serato "V" algorithm in PnT? Great on horns, singers, etc.. Very different from A and B algorithms.
