Default 2024.12, 2025.01 or 2025.02?

Genuine question...

It could be 2024.12 because the last one slipped a month and they're getting back on original track.

It could be 2025.01 because it's back to a 3 month normal after a one-time 4 month blip

It could be 2025.02 because 3x updates every year is the new normal.

Kinda useful information to know re planning subs / support purchasing - thanks in advance.

I'm fine with 3 updates if they're not filled with nasty bugs like this year.....I'm still on 2023.12 and starting to wonder why I'm still on the subscription plan..

Which is exactly why they aren't going to say.
However... they've already stated that 2024.10 was the last feature release of 2024. So if there's another release (like 2024.10.1) it's going to be a bug-fix release. Still means you need to be on a support/update plan to get it though.

Should be in your account.
There is no fix info in the updater download.
The download kept failing. It took over ten downloads to succeed, with some failing and unable to pick up after 90% completion. That in itself is a waste of bandwidth. I have no problem with other company's large downloads.
I don't know what's wrong with Avid's servers. It's hardly the Tyson fight, although the fix was in which one again?

The release notes were hard to find, but here's the link and relevant fix info:
Bug Fixes (Pro Tools 2024.10.1)
https://avidtech.my.salesforce-sites...-Release-Notes

Crashes & Errors
• Zooming in/out of waveforms just after recording audio in Playlist view could lead to a crash (PT-332582)

Keyboard Shortcuts
• Cut, Copy, and Paste of text now works again in the Bounce Mix Window if the window is accessed from the from File menu instead of a key command (PT-332739)

Playlists
• Scrubber Tools was not working on alternate playlists (PT-332961)
• Legacy sessions that were reaching the maximum number of tracks would not open when tracks were in playlist view. (PT-332685)
• Bounce To Disc would contain audio from the main playlist, even when an alternate was in Audition mode (PT-331029)

Recording
• Punch modes would create empty audio files during playback on tracks that were record armed (PT-332472)

Miscellaneous
• Executing Alt+Tab would leave Pro Tools in the foreground (Windows only) (PT-330639)

I was having lots of crashes before the .1 update and I'm thinking it was very likely this bug here. I'm sure glad they fixed this one as well as the "recording" one.

Well that's one option ruled out.

Three a year would be ok, I think they should be upfront about it though.

2024.10 was a good update, it just didn't have much for me personally. I think next year is likely to be better in that regard. So I'm holding on to my reinstatement for now.

+1. I recently re-upped my perpetual Studio. I'll probably just ride on the latest version once my year is up - at least for awhile - or until they release the next-super-ultra-ground-breaking-must-have feature update!

The Inner Circle and plugin collection are the ties that keep you treating a permanent license like a sub, and so if you don't rely on them you can actually work like... well, like you have a permanent license.

To update Ultimate is £500. My other DAW is Cubase, the new upgrade there is £83. All the while the features are nice-to-have but innessential, I tend to stay away these days. It's often said here that £500 for pros is the cost of doing business, but if your rig is stable and there's nothing super-important you lack, its daft to throw £500 out the window.

Speech to text is a feature I'd jump on. Folders in clip bins too.

I am oretty sure Avid is trying to deliver quarterly releases for business reasons, and to be honest I would not want to upgrade things more often than once on three months

Well, I think it's necessary back to 3 months updates because still with many problems over Mac OS multiuser, carbon connection, aux I/o in Sequoia... and many things for be better. It's unacceptable still without professional meters, phase for multichannel meter scope and professional mixing and mastering processors stock, no with extra annual cost. Sometimes it's unstable and fatal crashes appear including recording, closing app. Apps like Pyramix or Reaper lock core of the DAW for not stopping. Very hard work for developers I think.
