I'm trying to update my demo reel and want to include a spot that was e-mailed as an MPEG. It opens in Quicktime, but I haven't figured out how to convert it for use in Pro Tools. Does anyone have ideas?
Thanks!

From the PT menu: MOVIE-->IMPORT MOVIE
If it contains audio, and you need it, go back to MOVIE-IMPORT AUDIO FROM CURRENT MOVIE If you have a manual, it wouldn't hurt taking a look...

I got an mpeg 4 format once and couldnt import it. Then I did some reading and found PT LE only will import Quicktime movies. So you need to use Cleaner, or Compressor or something to convert it to a Quicktime mov. the File extention needs to be .mov
pretty sure on this...thats what I had to do to make it work, but that was last April and I cant remember, but 90% sure thats it |

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried importing the Quicktime Movie as PK suggested, and then tried to import Audio from Movie, but no tracks appeared in the window. Any more ideas?!

Hello. Hot Voice's QuickTime is an .mpeg movie, which creates a matrixed .mpeg audio stream. This is not .mp3 or .mp4 or.aac or .wav or .aif or any of those. It's a matrixed codec like Dolby Digital or DTS or all those others. This is also different from a .mov movie which can have a number of different video and audio formats, resolutions, etc.
Your only solution is to either make an analog pass or use an application capable of converting this audio to something Pro Tools can read. I think QuickTime Pro may be able to do this. I am not sure but I will check on this. If it is possible the way to do this would be to open the .mpeg movie, then do an Export>Sound to Aiff. Or you can do the analog pass by playing the QuickTime and routing the output of that to a Pro Tools input and recording it that way.

Pro Tools will not read any .mpeg file, whether it's a QuickTime Video or Audio 'movie' or as any other application. Mpeg audio is matrixed audio, not stereo or multiple mono like .mp3, .wav, etc. He will need either QuickTime Pro, a DVD authoring package that can read .mpeg or an analog pass to get it into Pro Tools.
