Default Bug or feature?: Can't export basic folder as session

Hi,

is this a bug or intended?
I can export a routing folder as session via Export Selected Track as session but when trying to do this with a basic folder that option is greyed out.

So after having imported some track markers to a basic folder via session import it becomes impossible to export just that track alone as a session unless you do all sorts of work-arounds like moving all those markers to a routing folder or regular audio track.

Is this a wanted behavior or a bug?

Thanks!

Do you have any tracks in the basic folder? A routing folder is essentially a rebranded Aux Track so it makes sense this would work as described. A Basic Folder is not any particular type of track. It’s just a container of sorts, so it might be by design.

However, This is an unusual workflow so it’s possible it’s a bug.

If you put just a blank audio track inside the basic folder, does it export then?

No. But you can export it when you manually select the containing audio tracks with the folder track. It won't export when closed or just the folder selected when open.
Seems like a bug or oversight to me or AVID doesn't consider basic folders as tracks even though you can put track markers on them.

It does seem like an oversight but could also be by design since by selecting the folder alone, it wouldn't know which tracks within the folder to select. Would either be all or none. However, the fact that you can add markers to the basic folder track would make it seem that those could be exported as a session if needed. But in a workaround, you can just select one track contained in the folder as a session with markers included in the session and on import the markers can be selected for the folder.

I suspect an oversight but it seems a functional bug to me. Maybe open a support case. I can see cases like wanting to map out and share a song structure where this would be handy, I have never thought of trying it.

For users of Intro especially: (non routed) folders don't count in the product track limits and so this may be useful/flexible there for sharing markers. (A digression, but separately I am thinking about a bunch of issues with Pro Tools handling of track limits).

Yeah these are basic folders that PT creates when you import markers to basic folder via session data import in the marker tab. I want to re-share them to team members as a stand-alone track in a session. I guess I'll have to do the old, close session, create new empty session, import that track, save, close, open work session routine that we were all used to before "export selected as session" was born. Or i create a dummy empty audio track inside the folder. Probably faster

Kind of an edge case but just didn't seem logical to me...

Frank,

You can save the folder as a track preset removing the check boxes for everything except Track Markers and then send that off. When the receiver creates a new track with the track preset it will import all the markers.
