Re: Carbon with 500 rack- bypassing the preamps / connectivity
Hi Kyle - I’ve racked my head trying to figure out if I am missing something when bypassing the line I/o in my new Carbon setup. I’m coming from DB25 lines 7 and 8 into my SSLBus plus, then out of there into TRS 1/4” inputs 7 and 8 in carbon (I might get a DB25 snake for INPUT but trying to avoid it since I do all my work solo and a track or two at a time).
The question I have is that when I bypass in my hardware setting, the yellow gain meters in front all light up. I didn’t expect to be able to adjust like I can if they are not bypassed, but I didn’t expect the entire meter to light up. Is this normal or am I missing something? I’m happy to grab a DB25 for inputs f that will allow me to use hardware inserts and bypass the preamps. Thanks so much - Jim Ryser

First now sure what you mean "when bypassing the line I/O" ? You can select "bypass" (on a per channel basis) in the Line I/O to bypass the pre-amps----- I suspect that is what you mean, correct ? Then to clarify you are using the DB-25 Outs (in this case = 7 and 8, ) to go into your SSL BUT you are coming out of the SSL via 1/4 jacks and then going into the 7 & 8 combi preamp inputs on the Carbon --correct ? If so------ me I would not do it that , As you note IMO you should use the DB-25 Inputs for tru-bypass That is what I do in my system and it works great And don't worry about the yellow meters being all the way up --in true bypass the input level adjustment comes from the HW unit

Re: Carbon with 500 rack- bypassing the preamps / connectivity
Thank you, Kevin!
As to your first question, yes. Second question… Yes. I saw in the manual finally on page 11, but it says the meter will be completely lit up when line in is bypassing the preamps. I’ve had such good luck with the system and I just wanted to make sure everything was right and for whatever reason I could not find where those light meters were pegged except for right in front of my face on that page. Regardless, I am going to hook the DB 25 inputs up to do like you’re doing yours. That way I’ve got options. Thanks for dropping a line so quickly!

of the XLR Combi inputs for mic's and other analog inputs . Do be aware that while you can have all the DB-25 connections (8 in --8 out connected ) And you can have 8 XLR inputs connected to the mic-pre section You can only use a total of 8 inputs atb any one time . And anything you plug into the combi XLR's will override and DB inputs for the same channel number.
