Default Confusing Pro Tools Renewals

My perpetual license for Studio is due, so I went to pay for the extension.

In the cart it says "PT Studio Perpetual Annual Updates + Support Renewal" in bold letters. Then under that "1 year subscription" with a quantity of 1.

Does anyone know for certain which it is?

This is confusingly worded and I asked the same question, as have many others.

If you don't want a subscription, don't press a button with the word "subscription" in it.

Which leaves you with the first option - "PT Studio Perpetual Annual Updates + Support Renewal" if you want to keep your Perpetual license and simply extend updates and support for a year (which is what I'm assuming you do want to do).

Answers from Avid themselves are to be found elsewhere on the forum.

So isn't the perpetual with upgrades button highlighted (on the left of PT Studio Perpetual Annual Updates + Support Renewal" ) ?
if so then you should be able to just click add to Cart

Support came back to me and confirm it is for renewal of a perpetual license. Having the word subscription in the cart is something that could easily have been avoided and causes confusion though.

It is 💯 misleading and IMHO an attempt by Avid to bait and switch people into moving to a 1 year subscription. In addition, the subscription discount is penalizing perpetual owners since it’s cheaper than renewing the update and support plan (subscription). They should be the same price.

You'd want the first option to update your Perpetual updates+support plan. The second option is for a separate subscription license.

I think the issue is that they are not 2 separate options; if I try to remove the "second option", the cart is empty.

The message "Saved payment is required for subscriptions" in red also makes it feel like there is no option to simply renew the support plan without subscribing.
