Default OUTBOARD Mic Pre\'s....

I've just recently purchased my first piece of outboard gear! The ISA 428. I want to purchase MORE! I need some advice on good mic pres. I was lookin at the Joe Meek line. Is it important to have a outboard compressors and eq's also? I want some different flavors also. Any suggestions on that? Im gonna eventually use the ISA 428 via adat/lightpipe (right now i have them on inputs 5-8).

Is this the right way to go? Buying a bunch of different mic pre's and some quality mics? I was lookin at the neumann cmv563. Any suggestions on some mics?

I just want more suggestions on some pre's and mics that you guys are using or lust after.

YES,,, it is the right way to go if ya wanna sound Pro....

As far as suggestions,,, man it's all really a matter of taste, and of coarse budget....

Pre's -- I like: Neve, Manley, Avalon, SSL, Cranesong, Alan Smart Research stuff --
Mic's -- I like: Sony C800G, Rode NTK, Manley Reference Gold, Neuman series stuff, Telefunken, higher models of the AKG's --

Congrats on the outboard gear..

Hope this helps ya--

The ISA 428 with the AD card is a great front end to a 002.
Why?

The pres (4) are quite usable especially with instruments.
You can connect 4 more external pres though the AD card giving you 8 pres into PT.
The converters on the AD card is as equal quality as the Digi HD 192 IO
There is a soft limiter on the input of the converters on the AD card for light limiting 2:1 (if memory serves me well)

My choice of outboard preamps......any of the Chandler Ltd gear.
