I've been using PT since 2005 and never ran across this problem. I booted up. When the list of tunes appeared, I clicked on and opened the one I wanted to work on (I'll call it Song A) but after it was ready to go, I decided that I wanted to work on a track someone sent me to put bass on. I did File-New and created a new track (I'll call it Song A).
In Track 2 I had to import so I could play bass to this tune I'm being paid to play on. When I went to IMPORT, instead of showing me the tracks that I needed to import, it showed me the tracks from Song A so I had to go to the Pro Tools file on my external drive and import the files I needed. After importing, I quit and rebooted and it still automatically goes to Song 1's files. Any idea how to correct this? (Windows 11; PT from 2019) |

Maybe this will make it easier. Let's say that you've booted up PT and you've gone to what you want to work on. You're at the edit window. There is something that you need to import that has already been put in the folder of the music you are working on in in the edit window. When I click IMPORT, the files I manually placed in that song's PT folder only show if I manually go to them. When I click IMPORT, I want the yracks that I put in the folder for that song to show. What happens with me is that it goes to another tune on my drive and then I have to manually select the song I am working on (its folder) to get to what I want to import.

Well that's how it works for me. There may have been a time when Import Audio would default to the current session's Audio Files folder, but now it seems to default to the last Audio Files folder used. I have to be very careful to navigate to the correct folder to import files from or files from the wrong session could get imported and/or deleted - thank God for backups!

Yes, PT will not automatically address audio that has been dragged into an Audio sub-folder within a session's main folder. Because, for example, it has not made a track for it in your session.
To "Import Audio" you need to manually point to the specific files you want to bring into the session you have open. You are first asked if you want to copy the audio into that session's Audio folder (highly recommended). Then you'll get the further question of where in the timeline you want the imported audio to appear. At selection, beginning of session, etc... Import Audio will always point to the location you last Imported from so you'll need to navigate to any other location.
