Default Dual core resolution yet?

Hey i have a dell latitude d820 and am wondering if any dual core protools fixes have been released yet?? Im running 7.0 and went through the whole forum a few months back did everything that was said and ended up settling to my only option which was switching dual core off in the bios.

Have new solutions arisen yet??

Hmm I thought Protools LE 7.0 and 7.1 work fine with dual core processors. What problems did you have? Which dual core processor are you using (Intel Pentium D, Intel Xeon Dual Core, Intel Core 2 Duo, AMD Opteron X2, AMD Athlon X2). Protools is not recommended for Intel Celerons, AMD Semprons, and AMD Turions even if they are dual core.

I have an AMD DualCore 3800x2 on a ASUS A8N-E mobo with 1 gig ram, and I have to do this every time I launch Protools v7.1.cs9... So, by doing this, Protools is only running on (1) cpu instead of (2)!
Maybe in the next 7.3 release?

DAE Errors 9092, 9093, or 9094, 9129 on Windows XP systems with dual core processors.
These errors can be caused by problems with processor scheduling in dual core processors. The solution is to assign Pro Tools to run on a specific processor core.

To do this:

1. Launch Pro Tools, but do not create or open a session.

2. Right click on the Task Bar and select 'Task Manager'.

3. Click on the Processes tab, then right-click on ProToolsLE.exe and select 'Set Affinity' from the drop down menu.

4. Uncheck the box for CPU 0.

5. Click OK and close the Task Manager.

You will have to do this each time you launch Pro Tools unless you use and application like THG Task Assignment Tool.

More info on the THG Task Assignment Tool can be found here:

But we have people running two dual core processors (quads) with no problems. Many others are running dual core Intel's and AMD's. The main ingredient is using Protools 7.0 or higher. Therefore it would imply that disabling one processor core is not necessary. This need to disable one core was needed to Protools versions prior to 7.0 (or so I was told). I understand folks are still trying to work out the Intel Core 2 Duo processors but am I totally off base that dual core is working with Protools 7.0/7.1?

Hi, I am about to get a latitude 820 too (given to me for work, so no choice) but I am keen to know if I'm going to run into trouble with the Intel Core Duo. The mew laptop will be 2GHz, 2Gb RAM, 100Gb 7200rpm HD. I hope to run PT 7.1cs9 with an 002 Rack. It sounds like it could be a bit dicey with the two processors? Does anyone have a latitude 820 or a Core Duo system, with PT7.0 or above running without problems?

Mike

CE Gray's post above is nonsense.
I have an AMD Athlon x 2 4800 with an ASUS A8N-E Mobo.
So do coutless others on this forum
I don't have to disable anything, or change anything everytime I open ProTools....at all.
I run 48 track sessions loaded to the gills with plugins, and have no issues whatsoever.
Neither will you if you have your system set up correctly

I had midi operation and audio playback problems with my AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (socket 939) processor. Now things are quite alright, thanks to this:

When launching Pro Tools I still have to go to Playback engine and put "1 processor" mode on and then change it back to "2 processor" mode and then it works.

Im on a dell latitude 820 with 1gb ram and a 1.8ghz centrino duo, i will try upgrading from 7.0 in the next few days, to see if that helps. It does seem clear to me from these discussions that the dual core issue has not yet been properly resolved though. fingers crossed for 7.3.

I have the same setup as him and I have to do this EVERY time I run PTLE 7.1. It has nothing to do with the actual Proc you have - but more with the chipset. A8N mobos typically have the nForce 4 chipset which has known issues with PTLE.

Me too... I have had to do it for so long now it's almost automatic... It drives me up the wall!
