Please help me select one of three boards
I have narrowed it down to basicly the same three boards, made by different companys. I will be running an XP2000 CPU along with 512DDR with one of the following M-Boards:
Abit KG7 Raid. Asus A7M266. Gigabyte GA-7DXR. Please tell me which of these three you would select and why. I know that there are many other great choices, but please keep it to these three, cause I'm way to burned out on any more research, and I think that these should be fine. Thanks a lot, Carl |

Re: Please help me select one of three boards
Last I heard it was the A7 -er, make that M-266 with Promise ATA100 TX2 controller according to Prof. Allen, our resident compwiz...
Thanks for the update Phil- I cut that right out of his recipe book too! |

Re: Please help me select one of three boards
Asus A7V266. (NOT A7M266)
Gigabyte GA-7DXR. Either of these two should be just fine. You'll want the Promise controller card with either one (the A7V266E has it onboard). Why? Both of these boards have been "tested" by other users and are excellent performers. I'd probably make the selection between those two based on availability and best price. For the record, I've got an Asus A7V266E, and I've been VERY pleased with it. Best of luck with your new system, and let us know how it goes...

Re: Please help me select one of three boards
Hi
I'm running my PT rig on an Asus A7M266: no problems so far, the system is working great, so I guess the board (also suggested to me and others by Allen) is tested, isn't it? Just my 2c. L.G. |

Re: Please help me select one of three boards
Yes, the A7M266 is my favorite motherboard. Easiest setup for IRQ adjustments too and doesn't seem to have the heat issues that the GA7DX has had for some. Great motherboard. I do recommend the Promise ATA100 TX2 controller card for 23.00 from www.newegg.com to use with it. I'm not recommending the A7V266E anymore, especially since it is going to be outdated in a couple of months now that the A7V333 is out. I prefer the AMD761 chipsets in the A7M266 and the GA7DX boards and I no longer like those onboard Promise controllers for the simple reason that it makes setup more difficult. Easier to just buy the separate Promise ATA100 TX2 controller card and I do believe that it performs better than the onboard in most cases.
