Default Pro Tools 12 to Pro Tools 2022 questions

Hi All, I tried searching AVID’s site for info relating to my particular upgrade, but found no useful info. Only info on the newest version of PT’s upgrades from the most prior version.

Being that Pro Tools is on sale this month, I am looking at a perpetual license upgrade from 12.8.1 to whatever the newest Pro Tools is. What sort of upgrades will I be paying for besides Folder tracks and dark mode? General stability?

Thanks for any and all help.

You'll be getting Commit and Freeze. These alone together with Folder tracks will be worth the upgrade, in my opinion. Stability will depend largely on your usage and hardware configuration. It differs wildly from rig to rig. Stability also changes from version to version.

Log in to Avid.com, My Account, My Products, click on you protools license, and you should see the upgrade options:

To be clear:
- your PT12 perpetual qualifies for the upgrade sale.
- the upgraded license can be used for any version of PT back to 12.

Ok, that is very helpful to know, thank you.

I already have Freeze and Commit with PT12. So knowing that, I'd only be paying for the Dark Theme and Folder tracks? Hmm, unless there were some upgrades to the audio engine (such as core handling), I'm not sure I'll shell out $250 for that.

My main reason into looking into an upgrade is that my system has become kind of unpredictable, performance-wise. I upgraded the CPU about a year ago to an i9 10500 processor, which was a big leap in terms of performance for me. But now, even on some smaller sessions, I'll get the experience of trying to instantiate or open a plug taking 1-2 minutes, if it will open at all. My thinking was I've been updating my plugins every time theres an update available, but I haven't updated Pro Tools itself. So if the plugin devs are changing this to account for coding changes in Pro Tools, maybe it's throwing a monkey wrench into my system.

I understand where I could find out what I qualify for, version wise. My question was about the differences between my current version, and what I would be updating to.

I'm sorry. My fault, I read it like you didn't find the upgrade page.

I don't think it's easy to find a quick summary of what's the difference between 12 and 2022.

Hey no worries. I make mitsakes all the tiem.

I suppose there’s no easy, direct channel to AVID customer support to ask, right? I’d have to have a current plan to get any support and all that?

No, you can still buy a perpetual license.
