Default Updating driver in my MOBO

Can i update the audio drivers for my mobo without messing anything up in my pro tools stuff???

Digi 002 on windows xp pro .. pentium 4 @ 1.6 ghz....intel 845 chip...gigabyte p4 titan MB....seagate hd.....40 and 120 gb @7200....1 gig of ram

Shouldn't hurt a thing if I correctly understand the question. You want to update the on-board audio driver?

yes...i found out the mobo in my pc has some audio driver updates available but before i went ahead and installed them i called my pc tech and told him i had recording software installed in my pc and i was concerned something could go wrong...he said he didnt know and if i had any doubts about it dont install them so i didnt yet and decided to post a thread here and see what you guys thought....so thats where im at

I'm usually a "if it isn't broken... don't Fix it" kinda guy. Just make a system restore point or clone if you have it setup, before you go ahead and do it so you can always roll back the registry if something does go wrong.

I agree with this, especially if you have a dedicated protools computer. In that case you really are not using the soundcard from the computer anyway - so you don't need a driver. What you should have is a setup where your PT system plays back whatever audio you want to play on that system.

Isn't MME part of the digi package now? And isn't that what makes it possible to use your PT rig like a soundcard?
