Default The onboard Firewire bus...IEEE 1394a...IEEE 1394b...???

Just a stupid question from stupid computer-engineer...

If you have a laptop with a IEEE 1394a (FireWire 400) port...OK ?
Then you buy an external Hard Drive with FireWire 800 with an IEEE 1394b port...OK ?

If you now buy a PCMCIA card with a 1394b port (FireWire 800)...OK ?
Will this new 1394b port speed up the data transfer rate to 800Mb/sec or will this port just be a second port on the same (400?) onboard FireWire bus ?

What's the speed of the internal bus ?

I guess transfer-rate is the PT LE success factor, or...?

Not at all.

I don't know much about FW800 either, so I probably wouldn't be any help at all.
