Default conversion confusion

I have a 16 bit session, imported 16 bit audio files but at bounce to disk when I select 16 bit, Iīm prompted to choose between converting on the fly or converting after bounce. What is it converting to?? I musty be missing something because there shouldnīt be any conversion going on...

any help is good

thanks

you must have selected stereo interleaved. that will cause a conversion, but not a dithered or samplerate conversion.

According to Digi, even with 16 to 16, there are still conversions at work due to internal processing at higher bit rates. See p. 321 Reference Guide. That's why they suggest you always use Dither Plug at mix.

Check your sample rate. You may have it set to 48k. If this is the case it will "convert" the file to 44.1khz.

mix2much

nah, I already checked. I barely ever touch 48k anyways. I think itīs just what JMS40 said it was.

I got these 16 bit sessions from a local studio, they mustīve been using older PT hardware I suppose. I thought it sounded decent and decided to keep everything at 16 bit, except for the mastering session.

thanks for the replies!

Sounds like maybe you have a 24 bit session. You can check at Windows > Show Session Setup
