Default Old Pro Tools Sessions

I have a question - I have Pro Tools 2021.10, and I got some old Pro Tools 7 sessions... I tried to open them, but I got a message box saying they couldn't be opened because they were an old version of Pro Tools. Is there a way to get around that, or am I just not going to be able to get them open?

More info is needed.
1-what platform were the old sessions done on(Mac or PC)?
2-what platform are you now running?
3-If the old sessions were done on Mac, were they done in SD II file format?

You might run into other issues once the sessions are open, but you should be able to at least get the sessions open by changing their filename extensions to .ptx. Start there and let us know how it goes.

1 - recorded on Mac
2 - I am using a PC
3 - All of the audio are .wav files

Tried that, and got the exact same message.

They're WAV files? You're lucky! I went through this same thing as a project to keep me busy during early pandemic lockdown days and it was a pain dealing with some of the SDII files (especially tracks that had lots of edits etc).

What ended up working for me in a lot of cases was to create a new session and then use import session data to import all the tracks from the old session.

Good luck!

OK all, I feel dumb.

The files began with "._" (because MacOS to PC)... as soon as I took that off, hey presto! It works!

I discovered a little quirk that might be of use to someone investigating this topic.

Since PT2020.something, PT is able to open and convert pretty old PT sessions and convert SDII files. Great.

A few of my oldest sessions, though, I think they were PT v.5, could not be opened when double-clicked on the file in Finder. Solution was simple; use the 'Open…' in File menu in PT, and they would open and convert without any issues.
