Default Computer Help

So I'm trying to decide what computer I want to be the "brains" of my prosumer studio. I'm looking at getting either a focusrite saffire 56 or more likely a saffire 40 and a good channel strip like the eureka. I my Mac to have the processing power to track drums, and mix sessions with a fair amount of plugins. I have been told any current iMac (i5 or i7) with a good amount of ram should be able to handle this a's well as the Mac mini server with an i7. If I got the server, could I use one of the hard drives as my recording drive and the other for pt or should I still get a glyph external drive?

I would tend to agree. Any quad-core i7 based rig should be pretty potent. And yes a second internal hard drive is great for an audio drive. Better than any external. How the recommendation for drives should read is something like this.

"I don't always use an external hard drive (as I prefer a second internal), but when I do (have to use an external drive on a Mac), I use FireWire"

Yes, the Mac Mini Server i7 (with two 7200 rpm-drives) is perfect for Pro Tools.

Nice! Im asking this because my current pro tools rig is an Mbox mini on a windows laptop and I'm unfamiliar with how apple computers work with pt. I'm looking at this as a three year investment but do you think I could get by with a quad core i5 iMac? It's that or the lion server.
